About

Helping You Feel Better.

About Psychotherapy:

Psychotherapy, also known as the “Talking Cure,” has been in existence for over 100 years. Therapy can help with social anxiety, life transitions, conflict resolution, dating angst, depression, loneliness, or rejection, as well as with chronic, severe mental illness, childhood trauma, OCD, PTSD, major mood and personality disorders, or substance or process addictions like compulsive sexual behavior or internet use. If you are depressed, anxious, troubled in your relationships, coping with grief, struggling with past or current trauma, dealing with physical illness, feeling hopeless or angry, or just trying to understand yourself better, therapy may be able to assist you. I believe we all have the answers we need inside us, but sometimes it takes working with a neutral observer to find those answers. Together, you and I will work toward increased understanding of and ways to cope with whatever problems or issues you would like to address. Therapy isn’t easy, but it can and often does help.

About Dr. Miller

In almost twenty-five years of training and experience with internationally and clinically diverse people, in multiple settings in both the United States and Canada, I have been very lucky to work with many different kinds of people with many different types of illness and problems in living. I have had the honor to work with adults, adolescents, children, couples, and groups, specializing in the treatment of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) in adult survivors of childhood physical and sexual abuse, veterans, and law enforcement professionals. Currently, I work with adults in either individual or couple’s therapy via secure video.

I utilize an integrative approach to treatment based on individual patient needs. For example, Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy focuses on how unconscious processes may be keeping people stuck in problematic patterns. Family Systems Therapy focuses on how emotional and relationship patterns we developed in our families of origin contribute to both strengths and difficulties in current life. Cognitive Therapy and Narrative Therapy focus on how the stories we tell ourselves become our realities.

My education includes a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Windsor, an M.A. in Marriage and Family Therapy from The Phillips Graduate Institute, an M.S. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Wright State University, and a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Fielding Graduate University. I also have advanced training in Cognitive Processing Therapy and First Responder Counseling and have completed the Psychoanalytic Studies Program at the Washington Baltimore Center for Psychoanalysis. I am a member of the National Register of Health Service Psychologists, the American Psychological Association, the International Neuropsychoanalysis Association, the Washington Baltimore Center for Psychoanalysis and I am licensed as a Clinical Psychologist in Virginia and in Washington, DC, and as a Professional Clinical Counselor in Ohio. I am also PSYPACT certified, which means I can provide telehealth (video or telephone) to residents of several additional states (currently AL, AZ, AR, CO, CT, CNMI, DE, DC, FL, GA, ID, IL, IN, KS, KY, ME, MD, MI, MN, MO, NE, NV, NH, NJ, NC, ND, OH, OK, PA, RI, SC, TN, TX, UT, VA, WA, WV, WI, WY).
